The Carnegie Borough Department of Public Works is essential to all aspects of maintenance in the municipality. They are responsible for the removal of leaves, yard waste and snow; black topping, road paving, and street sweeping; road painting, lighting, and signage throughout the municipality; upkeep and maintenance of Carnegie Park, Seventh Avenue Ballfield, Irishtown Tot Park, and Chioda Field.

Leaf, Yard and Tree Trimming Collection
GRASS clippings are NOT collected at any time. The Carnegie Department of Public Works collects leaves curbside on a weekly basis in October and November. Leaves Only! Twigs, sticks and branches clog equipment. Please rake leaves to the curb -- NOT INTO THE STREET -- as this can create a slippery situation for vehicles and/or create a storm water management problem. Final curbside leaf pickup is November 30. All leaves must be bagged in brown recyclable bags after that date.

Residents may place bagged leaves and yard waste at the curb in proper bags. Bushes, hedges and tree trimmings need to be securely bundled and shall be not more than four feet in length, two feet in diameter, and more than 40 pounds. Carnegie Public Works does not remove trees. Residents should call the Department of Public Works at (412) 276-0111 to schedule pickup of yard residue.

Plastic bags or sacks are acceptable containers if the bags are designated for waste disposal NOT LEAVES. Plastic bags must be strong enough to maintain physical integrity when lifted and be properly and securely tied at the top with a capacity of not more than 30 gallons or loaded weight of not more than 35 pounds. Yard waste shall be drained free of liquids before being placed in proper bags. NO garbage or other putrid waste can be included.
